Create an entrance way with a functional, yet decorative appeal for family and friends to utilize as they walk in the door. Entrance ways often have coat racks to keep coats handy before heading out the door, but you can also do a lot more with an entrance on the outside and inside area of your home. Create a specific theme or design an entrance that makes life easier for your family.

Western Indoor
Create a cowboy, western-themed entrance way showcasing a few antiques. This style works well in a Southwestern-style home, but you can also create a cowboy entrance for a modern home, to set this area apart. Paint the walls and hallway in the entrance way beige. Hang up a mirror on one of the entrance way walls and hang cowboy hats or horse shoes around the mirror. Place an end table under the mirror and put a few cowboy relics or decor pieces on this table, such as a ceramic cowboy figurine riding a horse or old guns from the antique shop. Place a coat rack on the other wall directly across the mirror and hang up additional coats and cowboy hats.

Organization Station Indoor
Design an entrance that also serves as an organization station for you and your children. Place a dry eraser board or chalkboard on the wall near the entrance with colorful chalk or markers for the kids to use. Write down daily to-do lists and reminders for the kids to look at as they leave the house. Post sticky notes with messages and reminders on the wall near the chalkboard. The kids can quickly grab their daily reminder notes as they leave the house.
Place a shoe organizer rack underneath the chalkboard so the kids can keep their shoes in this area also. Put a small boxed-shaped shelf here and includes a separate cubby for each child. Store shoes, homework and other essentials here and place their back packs on top of the shelf. Place a mirror on the other side of the wall with a coat rack nearby. Decorate the rest of this area with pictures of the kids.

Stone Outdoor Entrance
Hire a contractor to install a stone path entrance area that extends from your driveway all the way up to your front door. Choose light- or dark-colored stones that coordinate well with the shades of your house and main entrance. Add a few garden lights and dwarf shrubs around this area.
Flower Entrance Border
Jazz up a plain concrete entrance way with a flower border that begins at the driveway and goes all the way up to the front door on both sides. The border can include any daisies, tulips, pansies or other flowers that grow well in your area. If the walkway has steps, place a few potted flowers directly on the porch on both sides of the door. Hanging potted plants can also add a finishing touch to this area.
